Nafplion or Nauplion is a city of Peloponnesus, capital of Argolida and the main port of the eastern Peloponnese. According to the census of 2001 had 13,822 inhabitants. It is one of the most picturesque cities in the country, and was the capital of the Greek state in the years 1828 to 1833.

Nafplion is known for Bourtzi small fort built on an islet in the harbor, the Palamidi, Venetian fortress dominates the city, Acronafplia (in Turkish-Itch Kale), another Venetian fortress on a peninsula of the same name and as a place of assassination of John Kapodistrias.

According to Greek mythology, the site of the city founded by Nauplius to Nauplia, which was fortified with Cyclopean walls. Archaeological findings prove the existence of the city from the Mycenaean years already.

Nafplio is a popular destination for residents of Athens and the Peloponnese and is a bit from both areas. In the most beautiful buildings in town is the Armansmpergk palace (residence of the viceroy of Greece Armansmpergk) and the archaeological museum in Syntagma Square. The city also operates branch of the National Gallery
